Shocker in Nihonbashi… Bankers’ “Old Boy’s Club” Just Got Pretty
In an extremely rare event in Japan, Nomura’s banking arm just named Chie Shimpo, 48, female, as its new head. Not only is she relatively young, but she’s attractive and FEMALE. Yes, that needed to be said again.
Shimpo will become president of Nomura Trust and Banking next month. The announcement comes right on the heels of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s requests for more Japanese women to enter boardrooms. I guess Nomura took that as not only the ones serving green tea. Good for them! According to a recent government survey Mitsubishi UFJ, Sumitomo Mitsui, and Mizuho Financial all have top female executives. Moreover, even the country’s central bank—Bank of Japan—has a woman on its nine-member board. Times, they are a changing in the Land of the Rising “Son.”
