Investors Love Them Some Indonesian Stocks

More than half of the 204 investors surveyed by global fund management firm Schroders plc agree that stocks are the place to be this year. And if your eye is on the Asia–Pacific region, Indonesia is the hottest market. The Jakarta Stock Exchange Composite Index (JCI), which lost 1% in 2013, has gained 9.7% so far this year.

The Schroders’ survey noted that more than three-quarters of investors showed confidence in the Indonesia capital markets. Improvement in the economic data there was key to their enthusiasm.

Top worry among investors was inflation, with 46% concerned that it could pick up. Obviously this has been an issue in the emerging market for decades, and with a history of volatility in the currency markets there, a concern that won’t fade away easily.
